The auto dialer software is used by collections agencies, retail agencies and political candidates because of the higher chances and more talk time that this system offers over traditional dialing.  Auto dialer systems allows for the agent of the company to sit back and wait for one of the calls to be answered, without listening to ring tones or dial tones.  This reduces the chances of a headache and increases productivity.  The auto dialer only routes the phone call to the representative when the call is answered. 

The auto dialer software that dials numbers at random will often use a method for type of dialing.  The numbers are not randomly guessed, but rather are listed by orders, making it so that the numbers are not skipped or dialed twice.  The auto dialer system checks these numbers against the no call list to ensure that the legal aspect of these calls is covered.  There is a down side to this type of calling in that fax machines and pay phone can be called.  These numbers are then marked as non-phone numbers and not used again by that company.

The auto dialer software that uses a purchased set of numbers is much more effective at reaching the customers.  This software only dials the numbers given to it and routes those calls to a representative once the calls are answered.  This system is much more effective at getting a response than any other system.  This auto dialer system knows that these numbers are phone numbers and therefore time is not wasted on dialing non-phone numbers.  All phone numbers used by this auto dialer software is also checked by the no call list.

The no call list is the list of phone numbers that the public have registered with the government as a do not call for any type of telemarketing.  This does not extend to collections calls or solicited calls.  This list is maintained by the government and fines can be incurred by the telemarketing agency if these numbers are consistently dialed or additional harassment is done.  This list is readily available for those with auto dialer technology.
